DRESSAGE PRINCIPLES FOR THE WESTERN HORSE & RIDER Vol. 1: Part 3,
Developing Natural Balance - DVD
Every horse should know th valuable Dressage Principles explained on this tape. In Parts I and II you learned proper form and how to communicate with your horse by using your seat, leg and hand aids. Now it's time to introduce the side pull, a bitless bridle that is ideal for the early stages of training, both on the ground and under saddle.
Ground training is a necessity, especially during the first three to six months when you initially start riding your horse. It will continue to be a benefit throughout different training stages. If you are retraining an older horse that has had resistance problems, th techniques covered in this tape will be invaluable. You won't have to use forceful methods, and severe bits and spurs can be eliminated.
"Developing Natural Balance" contains a variety of lessons designed to teach you how to become a "thinking" rider as you build on the various training sessions with your horse. You'll learn maneuvers such as turn on the forehead, turn on the haunches, yielding and backing, all of which teach both horse and rider about elementary control of the horse's body position. The lessons include different patterns to help you teach your horse simple transitions, how to bend and turn, and how to pick up the correct lead. A snaffle bit is also introduced .
This stage of training is most important in developing your horse's natural balance, movement and self-carriage in all three gaits. Your horse will learn to relax, lower his head and neck naturally, "slow" his mind and trust his rider. If your goal is to have a long-lasting performance horse, "Developing Natural Balance" is essential, no matter what discipline you ride.
